Jennifer Garner, who was born and brought up in Charleston West Virginia, on April 17, 1973, is from Houston, Texas. William John Garner was her father, and was a chemical engineer company called Union Carbide. Her mother Patricia Ann taught at a local university. In the hopes of following in her father's footsteps her graduation was an engineering degree in chemical technology. She moved in New York in order to pursue her dream of becoming an actor. She worked as a chef in the restaurant in New York, as well as appearing in Broadway productions. Garner was a guest star in the show "Felicity." (It was in this series that she met her first husband Scott Foley.) Garner made her debut in Alias which is an action-thriller. Her first major performance was in the highly praised romantic comedy 13 Going on 30. The film featured her as a young woman trapped within a 30+ year old's body. Garner selected Gary Winick as the director of her movie. They continued searching for new projects after Winick's demise in 2011. Garner has been designated as an ambassador for artists with Save the Children U.S.A. during 2009, had an important role within the nonprofit organization. Role includes national literacy promotion, nutrition, early education, and many different aspects. Garner is a board member for the non-profit group from 2014. She promotes early learning for children. Being a part of the Early Steps to School Success (EASS) program's ambassador team, Garner visits families regularly to provide them with strategies to encourage their young children to achieve.
